This caption I know will arouse alot of emotions from my green and yellow blooded ladies. Don’t I just love them! 💛💚
Exactly a month ago they blessed our timelines with their array of fashion and style to mark their speech day. It was a feast of beauty to the eye. Thank you bevies of Kakumdo yes the Jasper Ladies that’s who y’all are.
My piece on their couture did not sit well with some of the ladies and they came knocking on my door with brutal force 😂😂😂
Let me get this across fam, the piece I write is not to denigrate anybody I say it as it is with no malice. It’s just for humour and people who are irreverent like me.
Schools have had long standing rivalry in academics, sports and what have you. It’s ok to throw in fashion rivalry… or?
How nice it will be of a banter with a colleague from abugiss, Roses, Holyco, Merries, Syte as a gey hey girl on which school rocked their speech day in style.
So my gey hey ladies I beg cool tempers ai. Na here we dey play for o!
Enough Nana K, sometimes I get carried away to shalaye ( plenty talk) 😂 sometimes.
Holyco bevys Herh u girls got me gagged oo. Y’all got me on chokehold with your fashion for your speech day.
You girls I know took a page out of my article last year for that major faux pas by your seniors. let me not go there!
Y’all brought your yellow and dark brown to life. DAMN!!! I saw some pictures here and there and held myself from jumping the gun.
I told myself I will wait for the official pictures. I was waiting with bated breath. Then finally my dear photographer extraordinaire the man I call “lens god” Mr. Yaw Pare posted the album. God bless you bra Yaw.
So I’m now poised to string words together. But before I begin, the Holyco girls are leading Gey Hey in the fashion department as at now. They ate and left no crumbs!!!
Let’s go….
Overall I’m impressed, the ladies put in the work. Those that read my previous articles about Gey Hey and rushed to their tailors for readjustments et al I see you all 😂😂😂
2000 year group is hosting next year I understand y’all better come and gag. Same challenge in three to 2003 Gey Hey. The fashion battle lines are drawn now!!!
Abugiss and other female schools, Holyco is carrying the torch now… which of you will topple them over?
God bless nothing less enjoy the read. Approach it with a sense of humour and share it to all!
Happy new year my loyals, what a year it has been but we’ve been able to surmount it all. We are indeed the real MVPs.
2024 I’m optimistic and hopeful we going to conquer it all!!! Let’s do this!
You know we love a list here, 2023 saw a lot of nuptials and the hype that came with them. We wish the couples all the best in their marriages.
There were a lot of hit and misses in the wardrobe department of most of these nuptials. I’ve decided to list down some of the engagement gowns that caught our eye.
I didn’t want to delve into the wedding gowns (white wedding) this time, i will do one for 2024.
The list isn’t in order of rankings, regardless, I know who is top of my rankings.
Traditional marriage outfits have become repetitive, there isn’t much creativity out there. It’s the era of the corsets and synching of waist that has become the order of the day.
My hope is that designers and stylists will leave the “who dey breathe” and “e choke” inspired looks in 2023 and blow our minds with something fresh and nouveau.
Some of these brides with heavy waistlines and chests are suffering but someone will say “how for do” they also want to be trendy.
In as much as I believe fashion is uncomfortable, I’m also of the conviction that wear what makes you comfortable.
Enough!!! Me koaraa I like shalaye too much 😂 here we go!!!
Now to our best gown for the year….
This creativity piece of this outfit is fresh and was out of the norm. I Stan originality and peculiarity. This outfit when I saw knew it was going to be the best engagement outfit for 2023. Though, I was waiting to be blown away by the December brides but none could.
Drum rolls 🥁 the best and outstanding outfit goes to….
These selection of outfits made it for us. You can say is editors choice. We love the creativity that went into it.
Some of the designs that we nearly considered were good at fitting but the finished work put us off.
I think is the desperation to overly impress or the eagerness to add too many embellishments.
Designers should work on getting illusion meshes that matches with skin tone of brides. A major turn off for me is when meshes does not blend in well with skin tone.
Going forward my dear brides stick to simplicity and have a personal style and fashion conviction. Stop copying blindly!!!
Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II and his entourage had everything figured out after the King Charles Coronation on Saturday 6th May, 2023.
Coincidentally May 6th is the birthday of the Otumfuor.
Together, with his wife Lady Julia, were part of distinguished guests around the world who were invited to witness the coronation of King Charles the 3rd at the Westminster Abbey in London.
Nana and his crew had a grandeur plan to party hard after the church service and the luncheon that followed. On a lighter note, Otumfuor is a pure Asante man and the small tea and sandwiches which is quintessential to British parties won’t do him any justice 😂
As the whole pomp and pageantry of the coronation simmered down. The heat had picked up at the plush Claridges Hotel in London, Mayfair. Where a birthday dinner party was hosted in honour of the Otumfuor to mark his 73rd birthday.
Trust yours truly SociaLyte Gh to bring you the juicy tea of what happened in London.
The dinner had in attendance a high powered delegation drawn from the political class, royalty and the elite society from Ghana and London.
When the grandson of famous Ghanaian politician the late Mr. Harry Sawyerr got hitched. It was nothing short of class and old money at its best.
His grandson, Manuel tied the knot over the weekend with her sweetheart Natasha-Rosalind. The event attracted the high echelons of Ghanaian society as guests. The A-listers showed up in their Sunday best just exactly how they do it.
The ceremony started off with a mass at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra, then to a high octave reception at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Where guests were treated to the choicest and finest cuisine and high brow entertainment.
Present at the wedding ceremony was the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Frema Osei-Opare amongst top government officials.
Below is the socialites and dignitaries that graced the occasion.
Over the weekend the ladies of Angel’s hill in Cape Coast, went back to school for their speech day celebration.
Hmmm “e dey funny me sef” Ei Gey Hey girls relax oo. The way Gey hey girls have been on my case to have a bite on holyco girls and the fashion they took to the Angel’s hill on Saturday erh 😂😂😂
I intend to make this piece short. Holico paaa I had a lot of vim in you chicas oo. Omo you shock fans.
The fashion was drop dead distasteful. Purple is a fantastic colour if you girls had applied abit of “colourful sense” it would have worked. But I’m sure there were too many I too know ITKs in your fold that said purple will work with blue.
Eiiiii atrocious is an understatement… I saw it and I’m like what the heck.
Let me pull the breaks here before I overdo.
Hopsans 98 please come again, to borrow from Charlie Dior what you did on Saturday was horrrrible!
I was waiting with bated breath, when the teasers for the show started dropping on social media latter part of 2022.
I just couldn’t wait how this would work out. So when the first episode dropped on March 6th i just Jump right in.
Incase you wondering what I’m on about, it’s the new reality show “The Cedi Life“
The show follows the lives of seven young Ghanaians who are making great strides in business and music.
Popular Ghanaian politician and Presidential hopeful, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has two of her daughters Amanda and Christable as cast mates on the show. The girls talked about the complexity of their family and how despite the huge number of their “siblingship” they are all close knitted.
The other cast mates are, top celebrity chef, Kwame of Biishville fame, music crooner Kidi, Afrobeat music icon Eugy, also has, Wilglory of @anima.iris fame, travel and lifestyle connoisseur Nanette.
Major high points for me is the quality of the production and the diversity of the cast mates. As an avid reality tv watcher, I’ve always hoped when Ghana will have a reality show and one that can match up globally.
With The Cedi Life, anyone that sees it will be intrigued and would want to stay on to it. It tells a beautiful aspirational story of cosmopolitan living in Accra, which I’m very big on.
We can’t continue to make the news for all the bad reasons. We need such content as a form respite and also awaken us that we are not doing bad at all.
Another high point of this, is how most of the cast mates are Ivy League graduates with rich working experience with Fortune 500 companies.
I’ve just seen episode one and it’s blowing my mind already and with the promos I’m seeing of the episodes to come is anything to go by i’m all here for it.
Let me use this to holla at the producers incase y’all need a host for the reunion I’m here and be sure I can stare the pot lol.
The Cedi Life shows on YouTube… check it out by subscribing and don’t miss out on it!
The time is here again when the brainy beauties sets off to pay homage on the knowledge hill of Kakumdo.
Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast is a school many of us have come to love. Why? Because any and everything these girls do gets a chunk of our attention. You have no choice than to pay attention.
This weekend it was time for the 2001 chics to host the school’s 186th Speech and Prize Giving Day. As usual it was a yellow and green affair and trust the girls to bring their A game.
Last year I was the most wanted blogger in this country. For sharing my thought on the fashion the 2000 year group ladies put up for their speech day. According to sources I was blasted for my frank opinion on the various year group WhatsApp platforms. Hmmm interesting!
Last year, it was alot, as the ladies were trying to out do each other and ended up becoming a mess. Some also were well put together and I acknowledged those in my article.
So I’m told this year the 2001 divas were worried and were watching out for my remarks. Ladies I beg make una rest, as a Nigerian will say. easy easy!
I was impressed with your fashion and you chicas really understood the quote by Leonardo da Vinci. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication “
When the kente for the occasion came out last year. I wasn’t sure it will do the lord’s work for you girls, but I must say it worked in your favour girls’. The mustard and emerald green saved y’all.
Here I was waiting to drag those who will commit the sins of fashion but hey 80% of you met my expectations and slayed it for the gods 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I will share some of my best looks and not so impressed ones. I think this year I will crown the best outfits. Watch out!!!
Now let’s move on to squad goals.
Aunty Caro… 6/10 you try sha 😊
Like I stated earlier, this year is much much improvement from last year. No outrageous fascinators and accessories.
Honest opinions only, nothing personal. Long live our school.
“Television and Entertainment is a subtle way of expressing how i matter and also how i belong” this is my personal quote i came up with writing this article. Is not from any TV or media maven… 🤣
During the lockdown period, i was pondering over how to distract myself and not allow boredom take the better part of me. Then a friend threw me a life jacket and said get on Netflix, they have interesting content I know you will love. So i quickly went to activate my account and voila i was drenched with unlimited content to keep my mental faculties in check during the boredom period.
After having enough of some American and Spanish TV shows and movies, i decided to tryout content from other places and i chanced on a Nigerian legal drama series called Castle & Castle. I didn’t go in expecting too much because i knew is going to be nothing extra. I mean after watching Money Heist, Elite, Designated Survivor, Dynasty, Prison Break amongst others i said to myself weytin Naija go show me?
After watching the first episode i was abit skeptical of the storyline and i downloaded the second episode after which the plot captivated me. Truth is; the production of Castle & Castle will not match the standard of Suits and How to Get Away with Murder. But having to watch a production which is authentically African and having to deal with legal matters that connects with us as Africans was for me a huge plus.
The series intelligently touched on civil and criminal cases ranging from rape, inheritance, intellectual property, family, manslaughter and human rights told in a typical Naija style with humour and forthrightness.
It also gave audience the look and feel of Lagos city and how money and wealth influence judicial judgment in some cases.
After watching this, my appetite got whetted and i started looking out for more Nigerian content. Then i discovered more.
Picking a clue from my quote for this article, which is using television to tell the world you have a story to tell also something to share; most of the Nigerian stories i’ve seen on Netflix is authentic and it tells the story in a simple and humrous way. permit me to mention a few.
Merrymen, Fifty, Bling Lagostians, Wedding Party, Lion heart, Love is War, Up North, Isoken, Elevator Baby, King of Boys, Chief Daddy, Trip to Jamaica. the list is endless. These stories are easily relatable but the production is top notch.
The story of Merrymen touched on the greed of the political class of Nigeria and also in a subtle way gave audience the backstory of the former Nigerian Oil Minister Diezani Alison- Madueke, who was arrested in the UK for fraud.
The Wedding Party also sought to show what goes into a typical Nigerian wedding and all the drama that comes with it. whether rich or poor weddings are a big deal in Naija. You can have a wedding planner alright but the show is been run by your parents and family. You the couple are just expected to show up. After watching the movie i’m eager to experience how a real “Owambe” in Lagos looks like.
Nigerians as we know them likes to show off, they unapologetically flaunt their wealth and will always take the opportunity to show it. Eachtime i chance on a copy of Ovation Magazine my admiration for Nigerians in this regard always shoots up.
The movie Bling Lagosians by Bolanle Austen-Peters gave us a bird’s eye view of how the super rich in Lagos the “one percent of the percent” spares nothing at putting together a party that will linger on the minds of many for a longtime. There’s always a competition among the super rich on whose party came up tops in a particular year. The story also placed the spotlight on Eko Atlantic City a new sprawling city in Victoria Island Lagos which is land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean to open it up for investment opportunities.
In the last couple of years Nigerians including ordinary people and celebrities have made a conscious effort to sell a town or city in Nigeria to us called Warri. Some social media influencers are leveraging on Warri to claim street credibility.
From my little research, Warri is one of the oil rich cities in the Delta State of Nigeria. The Warri people are of a peculiar breed who i understand are go-getters and “dont suffer fools gladly” they don’t hesitate to tell you what the deal is, but the same time very warm and funny people.
Watching a trip to Jamaica and Akpos the main character in the movie which was played by AY Makun sought to let the world know his real Warri boy status. Which he sold very well in the movie.
Most of his scenes in the movie, had something to say about Warri.
A noticeable trait i’ve realised about Nigerians is; they are very authentic and people who have come into terms with their true identity. This identity has been directly or indirectly been sold to the world.
Watching their movies on Netflix, one commendable thing i’ve come to realise about them is: almost 80% of the cast have Nigerian names. from Shola, Abiodun, Oluwatoyin, Dare, Mopelola, Chioma, Wale, Dayo to mention a few. is no surprise most Ghanaian and African millennials on socialmedia these days have now adopted a Nigerian name. I’m also thinking of adopting one Sijuade or Ade for short meaning eyes on the crown.
They also interlace their local language with the Queens language. Especially the Yoruba. I remember in the mid to late 2000s when we were consuming a lot of their productions, Ghanaians and I’m sure other African countries became fixated with the “Tufiakwa” meaning God forbid. It became like everyone’s jargon. That is the power and influence television and media wields in transforming cultures.
As a radio or television station, run an audition today for fresh talents and 70% of the talents who will show up have all acquired an American or British accent of a sought. It’s likely most of them haven’t travelled out of the African continent but through media they’ve picked up these accents.
Another interesting observation I’ve made in their movies is the showcasing of their food. Most people in the world attribute Eba and Egusi soup to Nigerians but these days they’ve opened us up to a collection of foods in their movies. moimoi, amala and ewudu soup, ofada rice, kpomo stew, rice and beans and their jollof rice they are trying so hard to push it down our throats 🤣🤣🤣
My taste buds have been sharpened to have a taste of these foods. Just like how the West have sucessfully sold Mac and Cheese to us and when we travel we are eager to binge on such foods. I’m sure a Philipino who consumes Nigerian content is also eager to taste their amala and catch a flight to Ghana to eat authentic jollof rice haha… no shade!
Last year i saw a programme on Youtube which chronicles huge social events in Nigeria and this time it covered the 80th birthday of a former Nigerian Supreme Court justice which was held at the Mayfair in London. One impressive thing i noticed was most of the women in attendance were all in their traditional Gele and Aso ebi. The men also came in with their agbada and senator caftans. It was only a handful of guest i saw in suits and evening gowns.
I understand their fashion and identity is a regular sight in all over the UK. Nigerians are the most populated West Africans in the UK according to population census.
Last year my aunt who lives in Canada was invited to a wedding of her friend’s daughter. They are Nigerians, It wasn’t stated on the invitation the attire to wear. According to my aunt knowing Nigerians and what they stand for, she quickly arranged for the family here to get her lace and gele from Ghana to wear for the occasion. True to her word 90% of the guest were all in Nigerian attire including their white Canadian friends and co-workers. It was a sea of gele and an event rich in culture.
The new crop of movies and Bella Naija have even given a modern twist to the gele fashion.
I’m in no position to determine whether what someone wears is right or wrong. As i’ve come to understand, fashion is an outer manifestation of an inner conviction. But i always have a problem with my Ghanaian women who show up at social events in gele and wrapper. So I ask myself what happened to our Kente? Kaba and slit? Duku or Tekua hairpiece? Is not attractive enough?
This is truly us, we can’t as Ghanaians be second rate versions of ourselves.
Now, the music score in Nollywood productions, most of the new crop of movies score only Nigerian songs. Nigerian music is the biggest on the African continent and also crossing borders. Gone are the days a love scene in a Nollywood movie will have a Celine Dion’s song. Now you will hear something from Simi or Waje. Is a very laudable idea and I appreciate the directors and producers for doing.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso also did same for her Potato Potahto movie. Very commendable.
After watching and observing all these, i ask where is Ghana? Our content on Netflix is only a handful. I know our film industry have a lot of issues plaguing it. Same for Nigeria but what are they doing differently that we are not?
I watched an interview on BBC when the CEO of EbonyLife Television, Mo Abudu, was stressing the need for collaboration. If the Ghanaian film industry is struggling and finding it difficult to break into other markets how about collaborations? Nigeria has the biggest market in Africa, have we thought of collaborating with them to tell the African story?
I’m excited about the announcement of Perfect Picture coming to Netflix. It will be great to see a Mo Abudu and Shirley Frimpong-Manso collaboration. As these women are keen on changing the African narrative.
Last year December when the world’s spotlight was fixed on Ghana in celebration of our Year of Return. The love hate relationship of Nigerians and Ghanaians was re-kindled on twitter as news of Nigerians wanting to “steal our shine” by also coming up with the idea of “The door of return”.
Although it came of as a joke, if indeed Nigerians were eager to push such an agenda; they would have taken it and run with it. Till now i haven’t seen a Ghanaian production which chronicles the 400 years of slavery to commerate the year of return celebrations.
For years we’ve complained about the film industry in Ghana. Nigerians till this day also have issues with their industry but have found ways to work around it, and have become a global force. Netflix International beginning of this year announced Netflix Nigeria where they will fund original Nollywood productions.
My question still stands, Ghana what are we doing?
Took awhile for me to come up with a title for this article. I’m still open for suggestions as to the right title for this write up.
2019 saw most weddings, one trend I realised was that; most of the rich kids in Ghana tied the knot. Some of the hashtags that readily comes to mind is #milanne2019 #yanfo and sharmaine #ntimate19 to mention a few.
These weddings brought their A game. Their families did not stop at anything but to give their guests the best of entertainment and an experience which will linger on in their minds forever.
But I dare say the shut down and baddest wedding of the decade for 2019/2020 is the nuptial between Akusika Akuffo and Brian Bekoe. Omg! what a wedding? I know I’m exaggerating but allow me. Coming from someone who doesn’t like clichè ,this wedding exceeded my expectations and lived up to its billing.
Before I let you in on the details. Let me brief you on who the couple are. I will focus on the bride as she seems to be the one whose family’s pedigree is well known.
Aku-sika Akuffo is an LSE trained lawyer, she is a barrister of both Lincoln’s Inn in the UK and the Ghana Bar. Her dad is one of the bigwigs in the NDC party. Mr. Steve Akuffo and Mother is Jaqueline Akuffo also known as Maa an entrepreneur.
Her maternal grandparents are of pure Asante royalty. They are also one of the top hoteliers in the country. They own Georgia Hotels in both Kumasi and Accra. Aku’s maternal grandma is Oheneyere Georgina Yaa Adepa of Adepa pharmacy fame. She also doubles as a member of Council of State in President Akufo-Addo’s government.
She comes from a long line of lawyers, from her father’s side. Current President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is her uncle. Wait for more names. Immediate past Chief Justice of Ghana is her Aunt, Justice Sophia Akuffo. Current Attorney General is also an Aunt, Hon. Gloria Akuffo also renowned lawyer and fashionista Kwame Akuffo is her cousin.
This is not a family to joke with. She has the lord and the law backing her union. Don’t dare!
Her family cuts across the fine lines of the two main political parties in Ghana. The NDC and NPP.
It is not a surprise that her wedding had guests from both the political divide.
Now details of her wedding. It was a beautiful traditional catholic wedding, which is hard to see these days. As most couples prefer having garden and hall weddings.
The guests were a little over 800. From the pictures each one was well catered for.
Unlike the weddings that you will get to the buffet table and you will be asked chicken or fish. The worse one is rice is finished left with Banku. 🤣🤣🤣
The fine details of her wedding was well ironed out. The bride and groom’s team was on point with different hues of colours from the bridesmaids and the groomsmen in their dapper tuxedos.
The reception was held at no other place than the Osu Castle, the former seat of government. The garden of the castle was transformed by the able hands of Tamara Jonah of Lion Heart Event.
Spectacular is an understatement. It was gam! Like my Kumasi friends will say.
The playlist was on point with music from the 70s to the 80s and the new school music was also in the mix. If ace broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi is the MC for your wedding. Then you should know the wedding is not for children. 😉
I think I’ve bored you with enough writing.
Like it said: a picture is worth a thousand words. Let me help you feast your eyes.

I’m waiting for the wedding that will knock off this one. Bring it on!
Photo credit is by master of the lens Mr. Yaw Pare. The best!
I’m sure once you read the caption, you will think it’s absurd, crazy and not worth the read. But hold on, chill and let me tell you why I think so.
In this age where celebs are doing the most on social media, with the quest to garner following. There are some celebs here in Ghana who have risen above the “nonsense” yet raking in cash and the following on social media.
One will ask why female? From observation it’s the ladies in showbizness who are competing with themselves to secure the place of being fabulous and glam.
The body enhancement craze at the neglect of brains. The crave for gowns and dresses to show up on red carpets to know who slayed or got slained.
The sickness of putting up stories to stir the pot for followers and bloggers alike.
My top three celebs have been able to rise above all the afore mentioned craziness and have built a niche for themselves.
On the number one spot is the long-legged actress/producer and mother Yvonne Nelson.
Describes herself as having one the best legs in the game. Or the YAA Asantewaa! Why is Yvonne on top the list? Yvonne from my observation has risen above the child play. Hardly will you see her at any “red carpet” event. She will rather be on set producing a TV series or taking care of her daughter Ryn. As some of her colleagues and friends are at their with ends just to look fabulous. Ms. Nelson will rather cook jollof and slay whiles at it.
Number two on the list is my girl Delay, Deloris Frimpong Manso, Queen of killing words. One of the best interviewers in this side of town. She knows how to get the truth out of people.
The multitalented lady, is the quintessence of not mixing business with pleasure. She’s a definition of a mogul.
TV host, movie producer, boutique owner, the brain behind Delay sardine, Macreal, spaghetti and now adding Corned Beef to her range of products.
Like Michelle Obama said, “When they go low we go high ” Delay is that and more. She’s been bastardised and most times been the butt of the joke. But she keeps rising.
I respect her hustle and fortitude of fostering ahead. In the midst of negativity. Delay gye wo ✌🏾
The last and definitely not the least is; Belinda Adade. Know. In showbiz circles as Berla Mundi.
The young beauty face las, bust on the scenes in 2010 on Miss Malaika Ghana as a contestant. She warmed her place into our hearts and became one of the best radio and TV personality.
I dare say the upcoming Oprah Winfrey of Ghana. Berla is articulate, deep, forthright and assertive.
Her job on the Late Afternoon Show on Ghone cemented her place as one of the best presenters in town. Kudos to her producers and team for the topics on the show. But Berla in the driving seat brought the show to life.
As some of her contemporaries are busy on the booty fillers, makeup, hair and all of that balderdash. She’s busy developing herself.
I wish her all the best in her new role as an anchor on TV3.
That’s the list… matured, open-minded and a zeal to succeed.
I tend to jitter anytime I try to pen something down on this sensitive topic, for some funny reason I always take a detour. Well, now I’ve been able to muster courage to put something down.
For ages, plus size people have been the butt of many jokes around the world.
Ok let me cut the chase and go straight to the point.
Do these descriptors ring a bell?
Obolobo ,oboshie, bufty, Osono, Biggy…the list is endless.
As funny as it may sound, these are demeaning descriptions given to people of my size. Straight up body or fat shaming!
According to research conducted by Cosmopolitan Magazine in its 2011 summer issue; fat shaming is one of the leading causes of suicide worldwide. The figures are staggering as most plus sized people got depressed, hated themselves and resorted to suicide.
How wicked can we be to body shame people to make them end their lives in such a manner?
As a result, one of the most interesting groups to come out of this new wave of online activism is the ‘Healthy at Every Size’ movement. Their stated aim is to challenge and remove stigma surrounding being overweight or obese, helping people to be happier at whatever size they are.
Being a plus sized man, I have suffered my brunt of body shaming. Which i still do.
The shaming comes from family, friends, acquaintances, colleagues and strangers.
Let me share this ugly experience. I got on board a trotro (public bus) and got a window seat which is my favourite spot anytime I get on a trotro. This woman got on board and sat by me. As the journey went on, another passenger boarded the bus and came to sit close to us.
As courtesy demands, I shifted to make my sitting partners more comfortable.
This woman who I don’t know from Adam passed a rude and nasty comment, saying, “obolo push more, you are so big you’ve taken all the space”.
I was lost for words. On a good day, I would have opened fire as we say in local parlance; bie gya, but I kept my cool.
As much as I tried not to utter a word, I couldn’t so i retorted in a rude but subtle manner by asking if she was referring to me. This woman had the effrontery to repeat the silly comment. I gave her a piece of my mind and advised her to alight from the trotro and get a taxi or Uber so she can be more comfortable. And oh, I gave it to her in the Ga language!
That’s the beauty of the Ga language. It makes communication short, straight to the point and the impact is well felt. 😉😜
That’s one out of many ugly experiences I face as a plus size man. And I’m sure other plus sized people go through such awful encounters on regular basis.
A gym colleague who is plus sized also shared this with me. According to her, to protect her sanity and peace of mind, she doesn’t eat in her office anymore.
During lunch, her colleagues will go and get their food, eat to their fill. But once she goes to get hers, people start passing silly comments like; “ei, you alone is that the food on your plate?”
Even on days she decides to eat fruits she still gets such remarks. She said it’s killing her mentally and emotionally.
She said what broke the camel’s back was when a fellow colleague celebrated his birthday and there was lunch provided. In the queue to get food, another colleague shouted; “you the way you look, you shouldn’t eat ooo aren’t you already full?” Then everyone burst out laughing.
She said to herself that as a result of her body size she has become an object of ridicule.
She has popped all kinds of pills just to shed some weight and and as a result during her last visit to the doctor, it was detected that one of her kidneys is fractured as a result of harsh chemicals.
Why are we this wicked? Can’t people be free to live their lives?
I have grown to develop a tough skin for such derogatory and unsavoury comments. I laugh over it and I move on. With the exception of a comment like “wo kesi3 yi di, as3 w3 di d3m” to wit, this your body shape points to the fact that you are disabled. The is the harshest and most insensitive comment. Proudly vocalised by Ghanaians. We the “hospitable” people.
A friend hinted that he was refused a promotion in his office as a result of his body size. According to insider information, it was discussed that due to his body size he will not be proactive. Very wicked!
You can’t afford to fall ill as a plus sized person. Once you suffer a minor flu you find people questioning your medical history.
This is where you find people prescribing all sorts of concoctions for you. Just because of a common cold. And oh, you cannot pause to catch a breath in the gym when the workout is intense. I encounter this a lot. You get people screaming at you for catching your breath as a plus sized person. Like I said, these days I can’t be bothered but i know people who will rather be sedentary than go to the gym due to such experiences.
The experiences are countless, very ugly and bizarre.
We are not a society that respects the feelings of others and also respect people’s personal space.
This is not to say it is fine to be sedentary when you are overweight. This is the time to get serious with our health. Eating well and exercising should be paramount. We can cheat once in awhile but the important thing is to stay at a healthy weight.
What we shouldn’t condone is people making us feel less of ourselves. That’s why we have a lot of people selling poisonous substances in the disguise of slim teas and weight control pills.
Plus-size certainly doesn’t mean unfit or unhealthy. It was God’s choice to clothe us in clothes that best fits us.
lets stop making plus size people shrink themselves and to make themselves smaller.
Show us how to be happy. Show us how to own who we are. We are worthy of respect and acceptance.
Everyone is beautiful. All we need to do is look in the mirror every day and decide we’re beautiful. What you think of yourself is what matters most. If you think you’re strong – you’ll be strong. If you think you’re beautiful – you are. If you believe you can do something – you will. True beauty starts with self-acceptance.
Plus-size is not a disease and we are not objects of ridicule!
Who ever came up with the quote above sure had Elizabeth Afua Adoma Mensah in mind. I speak so highly of my dear Aunty because she’s a definition of love, compassion, warmth, beauty and class.
A lot of times we hear stories of people neglecting their families when they go seek greener pastures abroad, but that’s not the case for my Afua Mansa. She loves unconditionally.
Big arms to welcome everybody. Her friends both old and new describe her as such. A heart of gold.
Today being her birthday I chose to pen down these words to celebrate her. I will not wait till she’s dead before I try to eulogize her.
We both share a taste for the finest things in life. She’s my main perfume supplier. Trust her to get you the best on the market.
Aunty happy birthday from the family and all of us we say a big thank you and we love you. God bless you and yours.
Have fun, don’t focus on the detractors and back bitters. Know that you have people who love you genuinely no matter the flaws.
They did it again, oh yes they did it… the Kakumdo girls’ gave us talking points this past weekend. They blessed our TL with their flamboyant hues of yellow and green.
Wesley Girls’ High School Cape Coast, a school many of us have come to love and admire. With their rich heritage of training women of substance who are at the commanding heights of their chosen professions and careers.
I followed closely on their social media platforms how fervent preparations went into the event.
They left no stone unturned and made sure to dot and cross the Is and Ts. The major highlight for me was the intentionality that went into the selection of their kente.
The name for the design which is part of the adinkra symbols is “Nsaa” (a symbol of excellence and authenticity) you would agree with me those are some of the values Gey Hey instills in its products when they pass through the school as students.
The Jasper Ladies took into consideration all the minutest details and went further to form 10 sub committees ranging from; legal, branding & Comms, fundraising, finance, events and the one that got me astounded was the prayer committee. Ei y’all indeed follow the King ampa 😂
If this is not excellent project management, tell me what it is?
I don’t intend to make this article long. I want to make it a short and relaxing piece for your delight.
For the past 4 years I have assumed and committed myself to be the fashion police for Gey Hey Speech day. I also do for other girls schools.
Others enjoy it and others disgust my very attempt to put a word together 😂😂😂 it’s nothing personal just love from this side.
I’ve gotten emails from women who credit me for helping them make the right fashion choices for events.
The Kakumdo ladies gave us fashion. Is something year in year out some of them break the bank to get outfits to come and slay. It’s become the Met Gala for school reunions.
Here are some looks that made my list for best dressed.
Let’s dig in….
I love her smile… worth a million dollar. I would love to see a full length pic of her outfit but from the beading I can see it has potential. Love it 🥰I like the simplicity of this fit. She chose a good background to take the pic. Everything is well aligned.I love this ensemble… you could tell the creative process in crafting it. Absolutely stunning! Snatched for the gods. I love this… starlight to the point with no extra embellishment. 👏🏾🥰💯You two look gorgeous… simplicity does it all the time ✅✅Super super gorg. I’m lost for words simply elegant. She is a CB woman 😻🥰I love love ❤️ this number. Proper use of colour. Excellent tailoring. Rich aunty vibes… she knew what she was going for. If this is what people saw and said. Your engagement dress is a gey hey girl’s speech day dress. Then I agree 💯👌🏾🥰First on the left, madam the designer who did your beading must be awarded with a hall of fame in fashion… whaaat!!! 👏🏾🥰 the lady in the middle that slit is everything. The cutting is sharp and superb. She chose comfort over fashion and I’m here for it 🥰👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾 the nude accessories blended in so well. Our African Mermaid…. Sista Debbie. Ate and left no crumbs. Sparkling clean look 👌🏾👏🏾🥰 why the silver bag?I pin 📌 this!!!! Spotless. This is just ravishing 🥰😻The details for me.. I like the modesty of this fit.Effortlessly beautiful 😻👌🏾
Well done ladies for pulling off a good show. From the awards, speech day, evening jam and beach party is a testament to team work and awesome sisterhood.
I know the 2003 baddies will blow off my mind in the fashion department next year. Also try and take individual pictures. I saw some nice outfits but most were in groups and difficult to review.
Ayeeko!!!
Nana Kwesi Acquaye ✌🏾
This year the millennium ladies, which is the class of 2002 had the honor of hosting the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day. A landmark event on the school’s calendar. Indeed a legacy of excellence.

I always get a bit confused between Abugiss and Gey Hey. One, they share the same colours, according to history science students at Gey Hey back then used to come to Abugiss for their 6th form.
Both schools have pretty girls 😉 and to cup it all up both schools are sited on hills. (Kakumdo and Aburi Bepow).
This write up is not for gey hey girls per se but for the bepow so han divas.
They had their speech day early on this month and as expected the old girls’ showed up and showed out.
Gey Hey girls’ lately have made Speech Day fashion a thing and the Abugiss girls’ have also caught the flu.
We love fashion here and of course we went scavenging and Ghana’s number one photographer Mr. Yaw Pare took some spectacular shots and here are few of the styles that caught our eye.
I love it but the floral decor on the left shoulder is unnecessary. it adds nothing!Simplicity 💖Generally, drop off sleeve style doesn’t sit well with me. Skirt yes 👍🏾 but everything else is too loud. It’s screaming attention. I like the intentionality that went into both styles. Everything else but not the turquoise in the fascinator. We need to run her through the colour wheel once again. Squad goals 💯😍I’m indifferent A lot of things going on at once. Layers of different colour shades. My eyes hurt already. Straight to the point 💯The glue on the frontal is crying. It’s too much…. The salon has to refund you! Woman know thy self and she did play it safe. She is not in for any wahala. Lady with the phone…the construction of her dress is super 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾Lady on the left I can sew an entire outfit with the bottom of your slit. How did u feel climbing up the hill? Too much waste of fabric. Last on the right and 2nd on the left. Nice outfit… the rest try again next year. A beautiful smile always gives a stunning outlook. I love this especially the earrings. This is what we call attention to detail. I’m obsessed with this look. It’s clean… her makeup and outfit is pristine 😍Ahuofe 😍💯Serving face…hair and makeup 💄 on fleek. Wow another clean look fascinator is fascinating 😍Nice earrings… I would love to see her full outfit. Age appropriate 😍Fascinator yes 👍🏾 hair and outfit no ❌The tailoring of this dress omg. Impressive 👏🏾😍Rich Aunty welcome. Very deliberate… she ticks ✔️ all boxes 💯😍🥰This fascinator has main character energy. But a mismatch with the outfit. You choose a fascinator like this, you better come all guns blazing. I love the coordination going on. Hair, outfit and makeup ✅🥰She needs to dance and show off cuz she looks good. Daring!!! you can see from her atomic structure theme fascinator. All the electrons are super charged 😂
From what I’ve seen so far, Abugiss did put in the work.
This used to be the preserve of the valley girls in Beverly Hills. The Paris Hiltons, Kardashians, Nicole Richie and the likes.
Now, two of Accra’s “valley girls” Aku Akuffo and Deborah Beeko are opening up their closets for ladies to own their fashion pieces.
Aku & Debbie
These two young ladies are known for their top quality taste in fashion and style. They’ve dubbed their initiative “the boujie bend down” a fashion day out for all the ladies that admire their style.
Aku Akuffo is a lawyer and fashion influencer.
She currently practices law in Ghana. Coupled with her love of the law is her love of fashion, weddings and lifestyle. As a content creator, she has cultivated a following of over 40,000 followers on instagram as she shares her love of fashion and encourages style for all shapes and sizes. She strives to use her platform to portray Ghana and all it has to offer. This includes partnering with brands and companies to promote and support projects and products she believes in.
DEBORAH BEEKO
Co-founder of Boujie bendown is a powerhouse with 10+ years in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle scene in Ghana, Debbie is a Ghanaian based freelance curator and content creator.
Debbie’s style is relaxed and yet ticking all the boxes. She is known for her DIY fashion tips with the ultimate aim of making style and fashion affordable without breaking the bank. She has been featured in reputable style magazines including Cosmopolitan SA, Glitz Africa, Essence and BellaNaija.
Debbie is also a fashion stylist, social media strategist and creative director, she brilliantly applies her skill sets together with latest trends in her work as an influencer with both local and international brands
This makes them the right girls to hold such an event. Aside their love for fashion both ladies apply themselves to ethical fashion and their love for the planet.
The Boujie bend down initiative seeks to curate collection of stylish yet affordable pieces to fashion lovers who have a great eye for luxury style but are not trying to break the bank. Bougie on a budget.
Join them at the Georgia Hotel at Airport Residential on Saturday 4th November, 2023.
Leading up to the 2008 elections, the NDC political party had gained “notoriety” from people especially the opposition parties as being abrasive and aggressive.
I’m sure the party did an introspection analysis and decided to give a fresh face to the party and also introduced some fresh faces as spokespersons.
The likes of Dr. Alex Segbefia, Hon. Hanna Tetteh, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu amongst others.
I’m till this day spellbound anytime Mrs. Iddrisu speaks. Her great command of the queens language. I mean she is from British Accra (James town) what do you expect?
Her grace, charm and class always comes through. Such an @awula” her French tips finger nails 💅 was one to notice.
When NDC annexed power in 2009, she served the country in various capacities. Last I heard of her politically was when she contested for NDC Party Chairmanship.
Last week March 22nd 2023 marked her platinum jubilee as she turned the big 70 a septuagenarian par excellence.
The day was marked with a brunch at her residence and hosted friends and family to a high brow dinner at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel on Saturday the 25th 2023.
Here to share some pictures of what went down to mark the day.
I wish her the best on this 70th milestone. I say three hearty cheers 🥂

Last Saturday saw the “Obromankoma” 🐘 girls sojourn to their alma mater for the Mfantseman Girls’ 63rd Speech Day. This time hosted by the 98 class.
Okay, let me pause here and talk about something which I find very unfortunate. Come on Holico girls’ especially those who hosted the recent speech day.
It’s always good to give back to your school. Especially the impact it has had on you and also do something great for the next generation.
Before I continue let me quickly put this across. This blog and the topics shared here is for light stuff and just tongue in cheek when it comes to rating the fashion of schools, especially that of girls secondary schools in Ghana.
It’s witty and also a different way to school rivalry that already exist. This time taking a fashion approach. Are we not tired of all the hard news? Why don’t you want to destress by reading a witty article? Anyway!!!
Holico divas you couldn’t take a joke. Besides, the combination of purple and blue you did, had some of your mates, seniors and juniors raising eyebrows of that color mixture. But I will revisit that issue another time.
Back to the mauve divas. To be honest 98 girls, you guyz got off on not so good foot. You ladies copied verbatim or “imagetim”if there is a word like that 😂😂😂😂 from the 2001 gey hey girls. Eiii no creativity kwraaa… why?
The only difference is the colors but the artwork screams gey hey. I promise not to disclose… whose idea was it to copy from 💛💚😂
The fashion for the main day was just ok. Nothing extraordinary. I reckon the plan was not to come and out do eachother. Just to play safe.
That not withstanding some looks caught my eye though.
I saw some bad fashion too. Some of those who planned to come and out slay had their seamstresses thinking otherwise for them.
Ghanaian seamstresses and their unsolicited discretion. Anyway, let’s see the slaying that went down.
I like this, the cut was good. But the illusion net colour around the bust area doesn’t cut it. If the seamstress had searched further at Makola she would have found the brown that works with her skin tone. Simple and nice… the puff sleeves did the trick. Everything ✅ but not the shades 🕶️ there was nothing to weld on that day abi? Fascinator and outfit ✅ 😍 again the illusion net doesn’t match her skin tone. This is elegant… the lady in the red fascinator was the outfit a jumpsuit? This is simply nice without a doubt. It would have popped if she had maintained the mauve for the slit without mixing it. The sleeves I’m not sure of🤔 Lady on the right, that’s how you do an illusion net. I had to zoom to see it. It blends in so well with your skin tone. 👌🏾😍 lady on the left’s outfit reminds me of an outfit I saw one the Gey Hey girls wore for their just ended speech day. It’s giving low budget. More like what you “ordered vrs what was delivered “ come better next time. Gorgeous… it’s giving what it’s meant to give!Squad goalsThe Sunday fashion saw an improvement. The fascinators were indeed a statement piece. Come on girls 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 those fascinators are doing the most. Love it 😍 Come on mauve queens 💃 Giving rich Aunty vibes. 😍😍😍
Well done ladies, I knew Syte would not disappoint me “like that” regardless, your sisters from Kakumdo are still on my top list.
99 year group the baton is with you. Better come all guns blazing 🔥 🔥🔥 next year.
I’m also waiting for Abugiss, Roses and all the girls girls schools.
